The Forum for July 2025 will explore the importance of nervous system regulation, especially in parenting and relationship.
Our nervous systems are evolved to adapt to stressors that pop up in our lives, mobilize our attention and physical energy to respond, and then return to baseline where we can rest + recover. Oftentimes, it’s hard to catch the effects of unregulated stress until it shows up in relationship with partners, kids or coworkers as fruitless conflict. If left unaddressed, it then creates a feedback loop where those relationships become more stressful, and leave us less resourced to tend to them.
Contemporary neuroscience has given us useful maps of understanding how we adapt to stress, and traditional mindfulness practices give us simple ways of bringing our body & mind back toward baseline.
In this month’s Forum, we’ll discuss:
how our nervous system adapts to stress
spotting your own “warning lights” that you’re getting dysregulated
how dysregulation affects communication and relationships
simple practices to effectively regulate stress and help your kids
